Champagne Art

Champagne Tour

Paid €8 for a champagne degustation, best value ever. Went to the house Nowak. Got given a tour of the pressing machines and the caves, Small family business, selling around 80,000 bottles of champagne a year. Old traditional method of hand picking the grapes and using an old pressing machine. Then got to taste 4 different champagnes. 1x100% chardonnay, 1x100% Pinot Noir and 1 was a mixture of all three grapes that they grow. To finish off a champagne liquor , very tipsy after this, was a fun afternoon

Epernay

Been to Epernay a few times and stayed at the Municipal Camping, weather has been a bit wet, but hasn't stopped us from doing anything. Went for a run to Mousse and back, running through the vineyards. So pretty. Can't come to Champagne Region and not drink a bottle.Yum Yum Yum

Beaune

Pretty little town, just filled with tourists. Couple of days here, staying at the Mercury, bit fancy, came with a breakfast, but much prettier than sleeping in the Kangoo.

Col du Galibier

Spent 3 nights camped at Col du Galibier, 1 night a Col du Lautrec and 2 nights on the other side of the mountain 8k down the hill on Valloire side. One the 2 day, did a run/walk to the top of the mountain. It was about 9k from were the car was parked. Gradient of around 6-7%. I ran for about 1k and was dying, so ended up doing 1min on and 1min off. Took me around 62 minutes. BB ran all the way in 45 min.

Day  3 I just walked up this time on the other side, gradient of around 9%. Legs too fatigued to run so walked as fast a possible. Took me around 1hr 30min, which include the last km inside the barriers on a small path that had a 20mtr drop on one side and people walking in all directions . Ran / walked down the hill, thigh a bit sore so protected the body. There was a truck going up the hill selling baguettes. Picked one up for 1.50. Lucky BB took it from me on his way down. He still managed to run all the 8k up hill, 2 days in a row.

Watched the caravan pass at around 3pm, got all the regular goodies, Madeleine and haribo . All the rest of the goodies we gave away to some children. Watched a bar/café TV setup outside for a bit, took photos of the riders as they passed us and then back to the TV.

Rodez

After the Park run, travelled to Rodez for the Arrived. Parked at the 4k to go, and walked to the Arrived. It was 2k downhill, 1 flat and 1k up hill. Lots of people as it was the weekend. Got the vide. The tradional Alight was for sale, very popular. Walked back to the car, BB ran even though it was quite warm by now. Watched the caravan, scored the usual food. Watched the riders go past, and was able to se the finish as a beer tent had two TV's setup. Michael Matthews win. Glad to see an Aussie win a stage this year.
Drove onto Laissac and parked in a huge cow paddock , just us. Ate whatever we had left, cous cous veg soup baguette

Foix

Spending three nights at the La Roucateille Montgailhard caravan park €14.40 per night, shower and internet are great. 5k down hill to Foix to watch the tour. Day started with rain, but managed to use the camping kitchen to boil the water for coffee, happy.

Day 3 was a 5k run to fox where the arrive of the tour was. Lots of people, walked the town. Lots of people. BB ran back, I walked , picked up McDonald's coffee , groceries at E'lectic. Chilled, read my book then in the evening watch some movie making videos. Weather was raining until 11.30 but cleared after that to a nice 25 and sunny.Dinner of tinned veg and cous cous plus some cheese.
